GAME DAY 1
From today until Sunday, the World of Bandy is focused on Lidköping indoor arena! The World Championship Men and Women starts today, Monday. A total of 31 matches will have been played when the last final is decided on Sunday. The first game in the Men’s tournament ended in a vistory for USA against Hungary 4-2.
SWEDEN IS CLEAR FAVORITE IN RUSSIA’S ABSENCE
Sweden is, as usual, the favorite in both the women’s and men’s tournaments. That assumption will likely remain until Russia is allowed to participate in the championships again.
This year, Sweden is probably a bigger favorite in the women’s tournament than in the men’s. The Finnish men’s team has shown that it can compete with Sweden. In the friendly match that the teams played in Finland earlier this winter, Finland won 3-1. It remains to be seen whether Finland will be a serious contender in this championship as well. Among the women’s teams, no one is likely to question the Swedish favorite team. But as always before a championship, we are all curious about how the different teams have developed since the last one.
The USA had a strong women’s tournament in 2023 and it will soon become clear whether the positive development has continued. There are several teams that will be interesting to watch, not least among the eight women’s teams. Hungary was promoted to the men’s Group A for this championship after winning Group B two tournaments in a row.
