TODAY WE CELEBRATE THE INTERNATIONAL BANDY!

The time was 10:20 on the 12th of February 1955…

The birth of the International Bandy Federation. The place was Hotel Malmen in Stockholm.

On the agenda that magic day was to create an International Bandy Federation, built by 4 national associations, Finland, Norway, USSR and Sweden. Gunnar Galin, Sweden, was elected as the first President. On the agenda was also a proposal to institute a World Championship competition. 

Millions of bandy lovers around the World have appreciated that proposal thru the years. And 28th February to 3rd March 1957, the first World Championship was arranged in Helsinki, Finland. 14 369 people in the stands during the last game between Finland and USSR.

After that moment and thru the 70 years, we have experienced bandy in so many shapes…



70 years later and 40 World Championship tournaments for men, 11 World Championships for women, more than 50 World Cup tournaments for club teams, Youth World Cups and World Championships, World Cup for Old Boys and Rinkbandy Championships.
Today, on the 12th of February 2025 – FIB celibrates it’s 70th anniversary!

FIB looks back on 70 years of a huge development of the international bandy and an ever-growing group of national member federations. There were 4 national member associations in 1955. Today there are 28 national member federations. The latest member nation is Italy, which was added in 2024.
