Here is a little unusal newsupdate from the exciting world of bandy. The international tournament “Two Lakes Cup” brings together athletes from Mongolia and Russia. On March 5, the Republic of Buryatia hosted the first stage of the “Two Lakes Cup” among student teams.
The international tournament, dedicated to the anniversary of the flight of the Soviet-Mongolian crew into space, is held on the ice of Lake Baikal and Khuvsgul. Three teams compete for the trophy:
- Irkutsk Polytechnic
- The national team of Mongolia
- Republic of Buryatia.
The competition was organized for the first time in 2022.Â
On the ice of Lake Baikal, in the village of Maksimikha (Republic of Buryatia), the games of the International Tournament “Two Lakes Cup” is traditionally held in February-March and always become a holiday of sports. The tournament is organized by the Student Bandy Sports League and the Irkutsk National Research Technical University.
The Hero of Mongolia, the cosmonaut J. Gurragchaa, the head of the Union of Mongolian Friendship Societies, and one of the most active fans of the tournament, came to support the teams.
The Two Lakes  Cup is one of the brightest events in the calendar of sports events of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation. The tournament is supported by the Minister of Sports and Youth Policy of the Republic of Buryatia Ivan Kozyrev, the Russian Student Sports Union and the Mongolian Student Sports Union.
The match between the Mongolian national team and the Irkutsk Polytech team was the first game and ended in favor of Irkutsk Polytechnic University with a score of 16:3.
The next stage will take place on April 3 on the ice of Lake Khuvsgul.
