Sweden was the big winner in Pori. Both the women’s team and the men’s team digged for goal and got gold. After the Finnish victory against Sweden in the men’s tournament the hope grew in the finnish population. Maybe we can beat them on our ground. That was the reaction after the preliminary victory.
But when the two teams stod against each other, Sweden had made a plan. And that plan

worked to 100%. The team took a great victory but it was one sad player afterwards in the locker room. The king of the ice with 5 goals – Christoffer Edlund! He told about his decision in Finnish TV – “This is my final game in the national team”. There were tears in his eyes, both because of the gold but also for the decision.
Tilda Ström
The Swedish women was even worse. Beat Norway in the final with 9-1. In that final was Tilda Ström the biggest goal scorer with 3 goals. The Norwegian team was full of hope after a good tournament but could not really reach the Swedish level.
The third winner during this World Championship was the city of Pori and it’s people. So much hospitality and positive in meeting the guests from different countries. And last, but not least, Carla Björndahl, Antti Parviainen, Jani Raukko and their group in the organizing team also did a fantastic job!
…and maybe some of the hundreds of kids that visited the championships several days got excited about the sport and maybe will attend a World Championship themselves in the future. Now they have experienced bandy, and go for it the way thousands of young players before them, go the real bandy way outdoors.
