THE TOURNAMENTS DECIDED FOR SEASON 2026-2027

It is now clear which FIB International Tournaments will be played during the upcoming season. Most of the tournaments are the same as those played last season. But with two clear exceptions.

The FIB Competition Committee made a proposal for the tournaments to be organized and the Executive Committee approved that.

NO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SENIOR GROUP A THIS SEASON!

The World Championships Group A for men and women were played outdoors in Pori, Finland last season. But this coming season there will be a pause for those tournaments. Finland, Norway and Sweden have decided not to participate this coming season due to financial reasons and then the Group A tournaments cannot be implemented.

Most of the tournaments will be played indoors in Sweden. Here is the list of tournaments, and the venues are mentioned if that is already decided.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP NATIONAL TEAMS (WCS)

WCS SENIOR GROUP B MEN AND WOMEN

These tournaments are not finally decided. The Executive Committee will consider the possibility to organize these tournaments even if the Group A tournaments are cancelled. Information will be published as soon as it is decided.

Great Britain won the tournament for men last season and the Netherlands won women’s tournament.

WCS YOUTH WOMEN 17, MEN 17 AND MEN 19

These tournaments will be played indoors in Uppsala, Sweden, just as last season. The Swedish Bandy Federation is host and Uppsala BoIS will organize.

This event was a big success last season. The matches over 4 days were alternated between the three tournaments. Finland, Norway and Sweden were the teams in all age groups. The players became both players and fans as they joined the stands and cheered on their other teams when they were not playing themselves. The setup was well thought out and we can certainly expect a similar implementation in the coming season. The time for this event will be week 13, 2027, the week that starts with 29 March and ends with 4 April, probably during 4 days including the weekend.

Sweden won the gold medals in all 3 tournaments last season.

WORLD CUP CLUB TEAMS (WCC)

WCC YOUTH MEN 16

Last season this tournament moved in Sweden from Bollnäs to Katrineholm after it had been played in Bollnäs for many years. The tournament will stay in Katrineholm this season and the dates are 30 October to 1 November. This tournament is the first to be played in the new season and invitations will be sent out this week. The Swedish Bandy Federation is host and Katrineholm Bandy will arrange it on site.

Last season, IFK Vänersborg from Sweden was the World Cup champion.

WCC YOUTH WOMEN 17

This tournament will have the Swedish Bandy Federation as host. Last season it was played in Mölndal and Gothenburg on the Swedish west coast. It is not yet decided where the venue will be this coming season. The tournament will be organized in the beginning of November.

The Champion 2025 was Västerås SK, Sweden.

And that will be the place this coming winter too and during days after the celebration of the New Year as usual . The WCC Men 19 will play 2-4 January and Men 17 during 4-6 January. Even here the invitations will be sent out this week.

Vetlanda BK, Sweden, won the tournament for Men 19 last season and Villa Lidköping BK, Sweden, won Men 17 in 2026.

As the WCS Group A for men and women are cancelled this season, there will be friendly games in Norway or Sweden. Those two National Federations are collaborating and will come back with a proposal for FIB approval. There may be a tournament for women and one for men, but not yet decided and the most likely number of nations participating will be 3 or 4. Information will be published when details and dates are decided.

FIB WILL LOOK INTO THE FUTURE!

A Working Group is now being put together by the FIB to look into the future and make a proposal for the international tournaments from the season 2027-2028 and forward. The group will have a mix of experience, expertise and representation from a number of national federations. This is to be able to analyze the development of the future World Championships and World Cup for Club teams.

How often should different tournaments be played? Where? When? Indoors or outdoors? What form should the tournaments have to contribute  development? That is probably some of the questions the group will discuss. All under the ambition to continue to develop international bandy.
