The World Championship Men A is inaugurated – Let the games begin!
The opening ceremony of the first of the two World Championship tournaments was held in Pori on Sunday evening. The men’s tournament begins on Monday with 3 matches; 13.00 Netherlands-Norway, 16.00 Sweden-Hungary and 19.00 Finland-USA (All times Eastern European Time).
The women’s tournament begins on Wednesday 14 January. That tournament will be inaugurated before the women’s games on Wednesday evening.
Four speakers expressed their anticipation for the tournaments, exciting matches and a real success. From the left the head of the Organizing Committee Antti Parviainen, the Mayor of Pori Lauri Inna, the President of FIB Henrik Nilsson and the Chairman of the bandy club Narukerä Janni Rauko.
A local choir entertained and Samuli Helavuori, the captain of the Finnish team, gave the Athletes Oath.
“In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in this World Championship tournament, respecting and abiding by the rules that govern it, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honour of our teams.”
