FIB HALL OF FAME – LEGENDS OF BANDY PART 8

This is the last part of the summer presentation of the 8 current members of FIB Hall of Fame. This final member is a true legend of bandy, both nationally and internationally.

Leo Segerman, Finland

Leo Segerman represented Finland in 84 international matches and won one World Championship silver medal and four bronze medals. Among the highlights of his international career were his selection to the WCS All Stars team in 1981 and becoming the top scorer of the WCS tournament in 1985.

After his playing career, Leo Segerman continued to build the future of bandy through organisational work. He served on the board of the Finnish Bandy Association 1992–1994 and 2004–2011. He was involved in the work of the Finnish Bandy Association’s Women’s and girls’ Committee.

The launch and international development of women’s and girls’ bandy was also an important step in strengthening bandy’s position in relation to the international Olympic movement.
Important moments were the first Women’s World Championship in 2004 and the first Girls’ U17 World Championship in 2009. Both events were held in Segerman’s hometown of Lappeenranta, and he chaired the organising committees.

Segerman has also played a key role in organising many other international bandy events. He chaired the organising committee of the men’s national team Super Cup in 2005 and 2009, as well as the Old Boys World Cup organising committee 2011–2019.

Segerman was inducted into the Finnish Bandy Association’s Honour’s Gallery in 2012, awarded the honorary title of Sports Counsellor in 2021, and named a South Karelia Sports Legend in 2024.
In 2026, his induction into the FIB Hall of Fame honours his enduring contribution to the development, international growth, and future of bandy.
