Åby, Växjö, Sweden, March 23-27
This championship was moved forward for various reasons, including the corona pandemic, and was actually supposed to be played in Stockholm. It was the eleventh World Championship for women’s national teams and the first to be held indoors.
Sweden and the Netherlands were winners. Sweden defended the World Championship title. The team beat Norway in the final game 12-0 after 6-0 at half time. This was the first time that Norway played a World Championship final. Russia did not participate due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. That had a big impact on the tournament results of the tournament course. In Group B there were two debuting nations, the Netherlands and Great Britain. The Netherlands won Group B after a very welldone tournament. Netherlands won 4 out of 5 matches. The only loss was against Great Britain in the Round Robin. But the team got real revenge in the group final when it won in overtime and Golden Goal. Happy goal scorer was Meinke Gommans.
