What was supposed to be an experience championship for the new youth team from Hungary turned into the worst nightmare. The team was disqualified from the Y19 tournament in Gothenburg, Friday January 20, after the opening match against Finland when one or more players were suspected of having used drugs.
The competition jury together with the Hungarian national team management decided to send the squad home immediately. The matter has been reported to the police and will now be investigated.
“According to the suspicion, a player consumed drugs. The Hungarian Bandy Federation condemns unsportsmanlike behavior, accepts the jury’s decision and supports it in the spirit of zero tolerance. Due to the ongoing process, we cannot share any further information until the investigation is complete.”

For the tournament, this meant that the game schedule was changed and the World Championship can now be decided with only three teams, Finland, Norway and Sweden.
– The matter has been reported to the police and the decision to send the Hungarian squad home is absolutely right, says Pär Gustafsson, Secretary General of the Swedish Bandy Association and Tournament Director for the Y19-tournament.
