1995 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP MEN

Roseville, Minnesota, USA, 29 January-5 February

This Championship was the 19th since 1957 and the first ever held outside of Europe or Asia. The games were held in Roseville, Minnesota. The arena was John Rose at Minnesota Oval, the largest artificial ice field in North America.
There were eight participating teams; Norway, Sweden, Russia, Finland, USA, Canada, Hungary and Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan participated in the World Championship for the first time.
The teams played a single series in pools. After a draw, it was a penalty shootout, which had no effect on the score, but which would determine if the two teams ended up on same points in the final table. The top two in Pool A went straight to the semifinals and the 3rd and 4th were eliminated by entering the top two in Pool B.
Sweden won the gold medal in the tournament. Sweden beat Russia in the final 6-4. Finland finished third after winning the bronze game for the first time against Kazakhstan 3-2. The first Championship in North America had 8,000 spectators.
