The 1988 edition of the SJ World Cup for men was decided according to plan in Ljusdal and this year Swedish Vetlanda BK became champion. The team took some nice wins on the way to the final victory. The team met Sirius, Helsinki and Stockholm on the way to the quarterfinal.
There Vetlanda played against the home team Ljusdal and won 6-2, and in the semifinal Vetlanda beat the USSR team Dynamo Moscow. The Swedes took a strong victory with 3-1 and in the final, Selånger was also beaten 3-1.
