THE HOST CITY TROLLHÄTTAN

Trollhättan had partly a strategic importance on the road between Västergötland and Norway and partly an economic political significance for shipping to and from Lake Vänern. To the east of Trollhättefallen you can still see today the traces of Dragrännor, chutes lined on the inside with mud where boats were pulled past the falls. The earliest document that mentions that boats were towed past Trollhättan is Harald Hårdråde’s saga, which states that in the winter of 1063/1064 the Norwegian fleet towed past the falls of Göta river and sailed into Vänern.

Trollhättan’s largest companies are GKN Aerospace Sweden and NEVS. The film industry is a new industry that has grown up in Trollhättan, “Trollywood”. At Film i Väst, half of all Swedish feature films are now recorded. “Innovatum Teknikpark”, now Innovatum Science Park, was inaugurated in 1997 and is a meeting place for innovations.

58 977 people are living in Trollhättan’s muncipality. Trollhättan is home town for the bandy club Gripen Trollhättan BK, now playing in the Swedish Elitserien.
